Once it’s established that Man and Woman represent Adam and Eve, it’s extremely clear who Domhnall and Brian Gleeson’s characters represent when they come bursting through the door of the house. They come looking for their parents, also known as Man and Woman. Oldest Son and Youngest Brother (henceforth known as OS and YB, respectively) show up at the house after OS finds his father’s will and realizes that all of his father’s assets are to be left in a trust that all three remaining members of the family must agree on spending. OS feels cheated out of his share of the assets claiming that Woman and YB hate him and would never let him touch a penny of the money.

The four members of the family argue over the will while mother looks on in horror and confusion. She looks up to see Him looking down on the madness, perhaps representative of the way God created Adam and Eve, and in a way, watched down on them while their lives fell into chaos. They disobeyed God and were thus responsible for all the hardships that befall them, their children and all of humanity

Him comes down the stairs and tries to calm OS down. OS explains how unfair he feels he’s been treated by being cheated out of his share of Man’s wealth. This could be representative of how versions of Cain and Abel’s story explain how Cain feels cheated out of the wealth of the Garden of Eden that his parents lost, since he lost his share of the Garden as well. OS escapes His grasp and goes after YB. They fight and mother witnesses OS throw YB so hard to the ground that he hits his head and bleeds out. This is clearly a parallel to Cain’s murder of Abel in Genesis. While there is no specific motive given for Cain killing his brother in Genesis, most believe jealousy and anger over God accepting Abel’s sacrifice over his own was likely the reasoning.

OS flees the house and Him, Man and Woman carry YB’s body out of the house to go to the hospital. Mother is left behind, pleading that they not leave her alone, but they all leave anyway, and she is left all alone next to the bloody floor. Later, OS returns to the house and startles mother. He picks up his wallet from the floor and leaves again. This could represent how Cain was said to be punished by God for Abel’s murder, being punished to a life of wandering. His return to the house could show how he is lost with nowhere

to go. (Cain and Abel, n.d.)

Man and Woman return to the house later for YB’s memorial service (see Man and Woman) and OS is never seen or mentioned again.
